Twenty Years of Fresh Seafood

The Blackfish Café, over the years, has operated using three key ingredients; fresh seafood, great service and a world-class chef. These ingredients have created a recipe for success that has stood the test of time. How much time, you say? Twenty years to be exact.

On July 4th, 1999, Rob and Mary Pounding opened the Blackfish in the Wecoma district of Lincoln City. Rob had left his job as Executive Chef at Salishan Lodge to start his own venture in town. During his tenure at Salishan, he won numerous prestigious awards including the AAA 4-Diamond Award, the Mobil 4 Star Award and the DiRona Award. But being captain of his own ship was the real prize he sought.

Over the course of the next twenty years, the Blackfish Café has grown its reputation as one of the best restaurants on the Oregon Coast. And, that is no accident. Just a quick glance on TripAdvisor is enough to sway even the harshest of food critics. And it all comes down to the ingredients. In their two decades of business, Rob and Mary have harvested relationships with local farmers, fishermen and gardeners. The ultimate goal is to bring the freshest ingredients right to your table.

Dishes like the skillet roasted Chinook salmon or the delightful pan-seared scallops pair perfectly with a glass of wine, carefully selected from the best wineries in the Pacific Northwest. No experience at the Blackfish Café is complete without dessert…specifically their popular Blackfish Ding Dong. It is a chocolate confection filled with whip cream, and topped with raspberry sauce, patrons will definitely need to save room for this masterpiece.

But the food is not the only good thing here. Customer service is also a key ingredient to the Blackfish’s success, and Mary Pounding attributes this to her staff.

“Our kitchen staff is really great, and they do a wonderful job,” Mary said. “We provide a family environment, focus on teamwork and everybody works well together. And the food is always consistently good.”

Rob and Mary Pounding invite you to come and celebrate their 20th year in business. Blackfish Café is open for lunch daily (except Tuesdays) from 11:30 am to 3 pm and for dinner at 5 pm till close. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling 541-996-1007.
