Fall on the coast is a special time. As the weather begins to transform and the summer winds down, there is a cozy calmness associated with the change in season.
The coastal foliage begins to change and match the fall sunsets we all know and love. It’s not quite winter yet, but one thing is for sure, you can expect the unexpected with the weather. One day it's perfectly sunny and the next it's a blustery storm. The rain has never stopped coastal lovers from visiting the beach whether to hike, explore, beachcomb, or cozy up inside or next to a fire.
Hiking in the misty, rainy weather isn’t for everyone but for some it’s just as magical. Try to find shelter from the wind and rain under the trees in our many open spaces, or visit Drift Creek Falls and bridge. You’ll find that the falls look a bit different with the increased rainfall and roar a little more than in summer. If the weather permits, and you hit the beach, you may want to look for more than just a Finders Keepers float. With a little more ocean swell, it may wash up various treasures such as agates, jasper, petrified wood, and unique shells. Fall and winter tend to stir up the ocean enough to bring these treasures to the shore, into your pocket, and back home to your coastal collection. Especially after a storm.
A challenge for you: when heading out to the beach, try to make bringing a spare bag a part of your routine. Trash left behind or plastics that have washed up have become an increasingly regular sight to see. Let's work together to keep Lincoln City beaches pristine.
It isn't fall until you see menus change to include pumpkin spice lattes, apple cider scones, or maybe even a homemade pie. After your adventures, warm up with a fall-themed coffee at one of our many delicious cafes like Salt, Pacific Grind or Lighthouse Coffee. Or better yet, stop for some of our favorite places to get a bowl of warm clam chowder.

Last but not least, as we approach fall, it is extremely important that you practice beach safety. With bigger swells and surf on the horizon, the threat of sneaker waves, floating logs, and high winds are knocking at our door. Always be alert, check the weather and tides, and stay off the beach when conditions are not favorable.
