INDOOR:
  • Swimming at the Lincoln City Community Center 541-994-2131: a variety of passes are available at reasonable fees.
  • Batting Cages and Miniature Golf at All American Putt N Bat 541-994-7888, 1251 NW Hwy 101.
  • Chinook Winds Arcade: The childcare and arcade are located directly across from the main casino building. Take advantage of the free shuttle service between the two buildings! Perfect for parents and grandparents - fun for the kids! Features include: 3-level Play Structure, 90 games in the Arcade Movie area, Crafts, Nintendo area, Deli on site.

OUTDOORS:

  • Skateboarding at the Kirtsis Park (one block east of Hwy 101 on NE 22nd Street: state-of-the-art bowl with 100 lines and one of only four "cradles" in the world. Free
  • Regatta Park: Swimming in Devils Lake, fishing, or playing on the "Castle" play equipment.
  • Bumper boats and hydrobikes. Blue Heron Landing on Devils Lake, just south of Hwy 101 at West Devils Lake Road. 541-994-4708: Ask them to show you the Chinese Grass Carp.

  • Chinook Winds Casino Resort, 1777 NW 44th---open 24/7. If you need child care, stop by the Chinook Winds Play Palace. Our goal is to offer a safe, fun environment for your kids while they are with us. For your convenience, we have video conferencing available at Guest Services. With a 2-way audio/video system, you can check in on your kids. Beepers are issued to you when you leave your child. Enjoy shopping, the beach, a quiet dinner or have fun in the casino knowing that your children are in a clean, safe and fun environment.
    Child Care Requirements -
    Open for children ages 3 to 11.
    Children must be fully potty trained. Socks are required.

  • Connie Hansen Garden: Featured in Sunset Magazine and Fine Gardening the Connie Hansen Garden has something to show all year. Open to the public at all times and hosted on Tuesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 1931 NW 33rd Street. FMI 541-994-6338. There is limited handicap access, and the paths are grass. So it is best not to take someone unsteady or unable to walk into the garden. Nevertheless, there are great viewing areas from a distance. If you wish, you can arrange a tour of the garden for your group.

  • Kayaking in Siletz Bay or the Siletz River. Kayaks can be rented from the Oregon Surf Shop at 541-996-3957; SW 50th and Hwy 101, just a block from the Bay or Siletz Moorage, just one mile south of Lincoln City on the Siletz River.
  • Whale Watching and Deep Sea Fishing: Tradewinds Charters, (541) 765-2345 Dockside Charters, (541) 765-2545 . These are generally hour-long trips, if it is just whale watching. The best thing to do is call ahead, after the 8 a.m. trip has returned. Then they know where the whales are and how much activity there is. Both companies are located in Depoe Bay, just 8 miles south of Lincoln City.
  • Bird Watching: Consult the Lincoln City Bird Watching guide for the best locations or check out the Lincoln City Audubon Society's website. The Oregon Parks Department sometimes leads bird watching kayak tours on Devils Lake. Contact them at 541-994-2002 to arrange it.
  • Seals: On SW 51st, near Mo's there are viewing stations which allow you to experience brown pelicans in the bay or seals on the spit "up close".
  • Whale Watching: About 200 gray whales live in the area year-round. You can see them without binoculars, from beach access areas or oceanfront hotel rooms.   • Glass Demonstrations/Classes:
    • Alder House III, March 15-November 30, 611 Immonen Rd., Lincoln City. Watch vases, bowls, floats and other art objects blown from 2000 degree glass. www.alderhouse.com.
    • Glass Confusion, stained and fused glass classes, 1610 NE 101, 541-994-4700.
    • Blow your own Glass Float at the Jennifer L. Sears Glass Foundry at SW 48th and Hwy 101. Appointments are best. 541-996-2569. This activity takes about 1 hour plus driving time. The cost is $75 per float.
  • Learning to forage the beach and forests for edibles. Lee Gray will lead a group tour to do this and then show you how to cook what you collect. You can find your dinner and then eat it too.   • North Lincoln County Historical Museum at Hwy 101 and SW 49th. Open noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Admission fee minimal.
  • Bijou Theatre: First run and re-run movies. 541-994-8255 at NE 17th and Hwy 101
  • Lincoln City Cinemas: First run and re-run movies. 541-994-7469, at SE 37th & Hwy 101.
  • Lincoln City Cultural Center- Located in the old DeLake School Building at 540 NE Hwy 101
  • Tanger Outlet Center: 60 name brand stores. Open 7 days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., except Sunday to 6:00 p.m.; 1500 SE Devils Lake Rd. FMI 541-996-5000; www.tangeroutlet.com.
  • Lighthouse Square Shopping Center, Oceanlake District, D-Lake Shopping District, Nelscott District, Taft District: shops of all kinds to suit everyone's needs and desires. Most shops open 5-7 days per week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check with individual shops for hours.
  • Pool, pinball, arcade games and Pizza at Neil's at 1512 SE Hwy 101, 541-557-9409

OUTSIDE:

  • Picnic and swimming and fishing at Regatta Park on the Lake about 1 mile east of Hwy 101 on NE 14th.
  • Drift Creek Covered Bridge: Laura and Kerry Sweitz rescued it from destruction in 1997. Investing their own time, money and muscle, the couple took the dismantled bridge and rebuilt it on their own property. Open and free to the public from dawn to dusk every day. 1111 N. Bear Creek Road, about 8 miles east of Lincoln City. FMI 800-452-2151 or 541-996-1274. Great place for a picnic
  • Hiking: a variety of trails are available, from easy to difficult. See the Lincoln City Hiking Guide.
  • Kite Flying: You can do this anywhere on the beach. One popular spot is the D-River Wayside in the center of town at Hwy 101 and SW 1st, where the ocean and the highway come together. Just across the street are two kite shops: Flying Things and Catch the Wind.

DAY OR HALF-DAY EXCURSIONS:

  • Newport: About 30-35 minutes to get there. Go south to Newport on Highway 101 to visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium and its newest exhibit, "Claws," along with many other marine birds, mammals and fish. Adults $13.25, Youth 3-12 $7.75, Seniors 65+ $11.25, 0-2 free.
  • Right next door is the Hatfield Marine Science Center with excellent scientific displays. Its new exhibit is "Invasion of the Habitat Snatchers". Donations only. No formal admission charge.
  • Marine Discovery Tours at the harbor can take you on a two-hour Sea Life Cruise---be it bay, river or ocean, cruise routes vary with ocean conditions. ($35 adults, $17 youth). 1-800-903-BOAT
  • Along the historic bayfront are the Undersea Gardens, Ripley's Believe It Or Not and the Wax Works museum.
  • Make it a day for lighthouses at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area and in Yaquina Bay, see the visitors' center, nature and tidepool walk. After visiting the ghost in the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, drive east to the Coast Guard Station to see all of the rescue craft.
  • McMinnville: Evergreen Aviation Museum, located in McMinnville, OR, less than an hour east of Lincoln City, is home to Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose and the Blackbird SR-71. (503) 434-4180 * www.sprucegoose.org .

TOURS:

  • Museum Docents provide guided tours daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Self-guided tours are daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with volunteer docents located throughout the Museum. Please allow approximately 2-3 hours for your visit.
  • Pacific City: About 45 minutes north on Hwy 101. Here you can experience dory fishing, a century old tradition of fishing on a flat-bottomed boat. Salmon, halibut, albacore and other bottom fish. Prices vary greatly depending upon the excursion choice and the fish sought. Call Haystack Fishing at 866-965-7555 or Eagle Charters at 877-892-DORY. .
  • Tillamook: About 1 1/4 hour north on Hwy 101. Driving north to Tillamook on Highway 101 you'll see the Tillamook Cheese Factory, which is owned and operated by local dairy farmers. See cheese being made and packaged in the short self-guided tour, then sample the ice cream and other products in the extensive gift shop. The Tillamook Cheese Factory is a popular tourist attraction for all ages. Don't forget to try the famous Tillamook ice cream before you leave!   • On the way home, see the Tillamook Air Museum, a former blimp construction hangar that now houses World War II-era and other vintage aircraft on display. See one of America's finest collection of over 30 War Birds including our P-38 Lightning, P-47 Thunderbolt, F4U-Corsair, P51-Mustang, PBY Catalina, B-25 Mitchell Bomber, and SBD Dauntless dive bomber. Climb into a jet simulator! Have lunch at our 40/50's Café. Enjoy shopping in our aviation gift shop. All housed in a rare World War II Blimp Hangar...the largest wooden structure in the world! The museum is open to the public every day with the exception of Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
