BEACH SAFETY

Lincoln City, OR. – There’s no better time to leave your cares behind than during a quiet walk on the beach with the beautiful Pacific Ocean washing up to greet you. Lincoln City has miles (kilometers) of pristine public beach, where you can find the peace of mind you seek.

And you can find other interesting things there as well. Agate hunting, a favorite pastime with many, is best done in January through March when the winter ocean pulls the sand out, unburying thousands of treasures. Low tide at any time of the year is an opportunity to visit tide pools. There you can view wildlife close up, including anemones and starfish in a myriad of colors.

But unless you are aware, the beach can also be a dangerous place. Occasional high waves sweep up over the rocks knocking unsuspecting persons into the sea. Some folks, so enamored of the ocean, forget to watch the tides coming in and are suddenly stranded on the rocks. Or sneaker waves, much higher and stronger than normal and which occur at any time without warning, may grab you by the ankle and pull you into the currents. Never turn your back on the water.

When you walk the beach you will notice large amounts of driftwood and huge logs lying on the sand. The ocean put them there like twigs; and the ocean will roll them over you quickly, as if they are virtually weightless. They are not. Never stand on, sit on, or play around those logs.

The Pacific Ocean is a majestic creature. Play on it. Play in it. But play it safe so you can enjoy it again another time.
