PARKS AND RECREATION

Lincoln City, OR. – Eleven city parks were created in Lincoln City for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. Picnic tables for a family lunch can be found at Vic Hill Park behind City Hall, the Siletz Bay Park on South Highway 101 and the Schooner Creek Bridge, Josephine Park on SW 65th, Kids’ Park at SW Fleet and 68th Street, Kirtsis Park, and Regatta Park on West Devils Lake Road. Regatta Park, which fronts Devils Lake boasts a state-of-the-art playground for the children, as well as a boat launch, walking trails, and an Interpretive Center. Additional children’s playgrounds are available at Wecoma Park on NW 31st and Jetty and Kids’ Park, and there are tennis courts at Dorchester Park on NW Neptune and NW 28th.

Site of the annual Soap Box Derby in June, Kirtsis Park, located on NE 22nd and Highway 101, has facilities for a variety of recreational activities. It includes a ball field, picnic facilities, and the Lincoln City Skateboard Park, which was named as one of the “gnarliest” skateboard parks in the country. That skateboard park now has a covered portion for use during inclement weather and a cradle, one of the few in the world. The Rec Center, just across the street sports a basketball court, walking track, swimming pool and a rock-climbing wall.

If you wish to launch a boat on Devils Lake, you should consider Holmes Road Park on Holmes Road and West Devils Lake Road. But if you want a quiet view of the beautiful lake and a bit of fishing, your destination should be Sandpoint Park. Fishing and crabbing can also be done from Taft Waterfront Park on Siletz Bay at SW 51st.

The city parks are maintained by the Lincoln City Department of Parks and Recreation. That department enhances park use by offering a number of classes and recreational opportunities, like baseball and sailing camps, the fall Sprint Triathlon, swimming lessons, surfing lessons, or summer hikes. For a complete list of their available programs, call 541-994-2131 or visit their website at LincolnCity.org.

In addition to the city parks, the State Parks Department offers other opportunities for recreation, camping and other enjoyment. The Devils Lake State Park and Campground, located on the west side of the lake, has a boat moorage, yurts, and 100 spaces for tents and recreational vehicles. It is such a popular location that reservations are recommended during the summer and fall months.

And the D-River Wayside, one of the most frequented spots in Oregon, is the site of the annual Kite Festivals. The Wayside, adjacent to the D River (the shortest river in the world), is also a popular spot for accessing the beach, having a picnic on a blanket, feeding the gulls, or simply enjoying the hypnotic rhythm of the mighty Pacific.
