Lincoln City, OR. Did you get hungry taking a long stroll on the Pacific beaches? Then just duck into that oceanfront restaurant in Lincoln City, Oregon, that has been open for more than a thousand years---Restaurant Lee Gray, the Wild Gourmet. You never need to be hungry at the beach again.
Beach edibles are not just for sanderlings or seagulls. They are for humans too, and they have been around for thousands of years. From kelp and seaweed to bivalves and crustaceans, professional chef Lee Gray will help you identify edible species of ocean plant and intertidal animal life, provide tips on where and when to find them, and teach you how to cook and preserve them while protecting their tide pool homes. He will even take you on an expedition to the Mighty Pacific’s beaches to examine tide pools and learn proper harvesting techniques. Tasting is available and should not be passed up!
Lee Gray began his professional cooking career at nine years old in his parents’ restaurant in Sutters Creek, CA in 1958. In the 70’s he moved to Beverly Hills and worked as a Chef in many fine-dining establishments in the Hollywood area. In search of new adventures, Chef Gray moved to the Oregon Coast and took up residence in a sea cave, where he honed his culinary survival skills. Since then he has authored cookbooks and food columns and won numerous awards in the culinary arts----oh, and he moved into a real house in Lincoln City.
