Lincoln City, OR. There is no finer way to see the sites than hiking on beautiful coastal trails. Included in the 360-mile (579 km) Oregon Coast Trail which extends from the Washington border to the California border, is 7.5 (12 km) miles of sandy public beach stretching through Lincoln City. At low tide, when it is not storming, the entire stretch can be traversed. A detailed map of the trail can be obtained from Oregon State Parks.
Just north of Lincoln City is the Cascade Head Nature Conservancy. The Nature Conservancy trail is made up of three major hikes, and wildlife is abundant. The trail covers both the north and the south sides of the headlands. From the top hikers can see spectacular views of the Salmon River on one side and a panoramic view of the central coast on the other. Occasionally one can even catch a glimpse of a pod of whales below. For the protection of wildlife, the trails must sometimes be closed, and it is prudent to check before leaving by calling the Hebo Ranger Station at (503) 392-3161.
Easy and moderately difficult trails can also be found in Lincoln City. Among them is the Regatta Grounds Nature Trail, a half-mile walk through old growth forest. Nearby Spring Lake trail winds around a small lake, crossing a stream in a wooded area. If it is wildflowers you would like to see, try the East Devils Lake State Park trail which will lead you through ferns, forestlands, mushrooms, and wild flora.
Just south of Lincoln City hikers may enjoy a unique forested trail with a 240-foot (73 m) suspension bridge swaying in full view of a 75-foot (23 m) high Drift Creek Falls. The trail is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long and has at its most difficult part a 12% grade. The waterfall and the suspension bridge, in addition to the beauty of the forest, make the hike well worth taking. Don’t forget your camera.
