A FEAST OF FESTIVALS
Lincoln City, OR. Although many people come to Lincoln City to experience the beach and the mighty Pacific, it is always enjoyable to find a festival or two where you can eat, enjoy music, participate in an unusual activity or simply learn something new. If you are looking for any of those activities, Lincoln City has a festival for you.
The floral explosion of May and June gave rise to the annual Festival of Gardens. This festival, a benefit for the Connie Hansen Garden in Lincoln City, has workshops, plant sales, food, and garden tours.
The Cascade Head Music Festival occurs on three weekends in June. Here you can introduce yourself to or reacquaint yourself with some of the finest classical music and musicians in the world.
Also in June the art galleries of Lincoln City celebrate their finest exhibits with a Glass Weekend Gallery Hop. This weekend event features artists’ receptions, art demonstrations, refreshments, and drawings for gift certificates toward that piece you nearly left behind.
And to round out spring and send you smiling into summer, the last weekend in June hosts the first of three annual Kite Festivals, two held at the D-River Wayside, where experts and novices alike fly hundreds of colorful and uniquely-shaped kites, some are dragons, while others are enormous bears. The festival offers kite-making workshops, contests, demonstrations, and “beach food.” The second kite festival of each year, held in October is the Fall International Kite Festival, which brings professional kite flyers from all over the world. A unique indoor windless kite flying festival made its debut in March 2004 and is an annual spring break event.
August is a great time to spend time on the beach. As an added beach activity, the Bay Area Merchants Association sponsors the annual Sand Castle Building Competition on Siletz Bay on SW 51st. There you can eat more beach food and build the castle of your dreams.
Though the traffic slows in the Fall, the weather is still beautiful, and Lincoln City remembers the importance of art with the Plein Air Art Festival down on the Bay. And there is more for those interested in glass art when Lincoln City celebrates Finders Keepers with Glass Galore, an exhibition and sale of glass art of all kinds, including fused, blown, slumped and stained, generally held near the end of October.
So when you get ready to travel to Lincoln City, call the Visitor and Convention Bureau for a calendar of events. There is an enticing festival to enjoy at whatever time of year you choose.
