BOARD GAMES

Lincoln City, OR. – Many of us grew up playing board games, like Monopoly. But the last few generations have grown up playing board games of a different kind---board games in which their entire bodies ride on boards. And those board games abound in Lincoln City. For those who enjoy water board games, surfing, body boarding, wind surfing and kite boarding are just the thing. Lincoln City has ten miles (16 km) of steady waves from Roads End at the north to Salishan at the south. Those swells encounter rocky reefs offshore, piling the water into mammoth waves just waiting for the rider. A popular spot is Roads End State Park.

The first Nelscott Reef Tow In surfing contest was held December 11, 2005. Each year between mid-October and mid-December giant ocean waves, some measuring as much as 30 feet (9.1 m), roll toward the beach in central Lincoln City, making the conditions ideal for the contest, which attracts surfers from all over the world. If you need equipment or surfing instruction, help is a short distance away at the Oregon Surf Shop, the Lincoln City Surf Shop, or Safari Town Surf Shop. Even the Lincoln City Department of Parks and Recreation offers instruction for surfers.

And if water skiing is your thing, Devils Lake is a popular spot from Memorial Day through September when the weather is calmer and the lake is warmer.

Interested in boarding on dry land? Lincoln City has a spectacular skateboard park named one of the “gnarliest” parks in the United States. The 8,000 square foot (743 m2) facility in Kirtsis Park has more than 100 lines and a unique 9-foot (2.7 m) bowl to challenge boarders of all levels. Recently a covered skateboard bowl was added for those days when the weather is a bit inclement. The covered park has a cradle which allows skaters to skate upside down with sufficient speed. Only three other cradles exist in the world.
