Penny Lingenfelter, of Port Orchard, Washington, is well known for the four-line Revolution kites she has been flying for more than a decade. Eight years ago she began flying kites indoors in no wind with no fans and placed 2nd in the AKA 2001 Grand National Competition for indoor flying. But Penny can take her costumes, props, and kites outdoors too, and her colorful and exciting routines helped her to place 2nd in Outdoor Freestyle in 2001 as well. Penny offers free kite lessons to children and adults of all ages. She will demonstrate the art of flying indoors without wind and invites young and old alike to get on the floor with her for a free lesson in indoor flying. Jerry Cannon, of Auburn, Washington started flying indoors in 1998. Jerry along with his wife Marcia fly Master Individual pairs as team "Last Flight Out". He is a two time World Team Champion with team "Cutting Edge". Jerry is an excellent teacher of indoor flying. If you are having trouble with your flying...he is the man to see!
Paul de Bakker, of Dutch nationality, moved to Wilmington, North Carolina in June 2006. Paul has been designing kites for several high end kite makers such as Level One from Germany and Cavaliers du Ciel from France. Since 1996, Paul has won many awards throughout the world in indoor and outdoor competitions, check out the video where he took first place at the Long Beach, Washington Indoor Kite Festival in 2008. He took 1st place for Indoor National Champion in 2009 and is ranked #1 in both Indoor & Outdoor flying on the east coast. In 2007, Paul teamed up with Lisa Willoughby to create pair Fusion. They took the National Champion Pairs Ballet (outdoor) title in 2009.
Jerimy Colbert, of Lincoln City, Oregon flies and creates kites. He specializes in applique shapes and cody war kites. He flies both indoor and outdoor and he is a patient teacher of the art. For Jerimy, kite flying is a family affair, he flies along side his 2 sons and his father owns a kite store in Washington state.
Zach Colbert, of Lincoln City, Oregon has been flying kites most his life. He flies both indoor and outdoor and he is exciting to watch and his enthusiasm is contagious! Zach is one of our youngest fliers that has participated in our indoor performance.
Bill Rogers, of Poulsbo, Washington will be the head judge for the AKA competition this year. Bill is a member of the team "Sixth Sense" and can be seen at the Lincoln City Summer Kite Festival in June 2009.
Wayne Turner, from Tacoma, WA, began flying kites in 1998 and competing in 2000 (to give his friend Scott Davis some competition). He brought home 3 awards in the Novice category at the 2000 national competition. That same year, he teamed up with Bill Rogers and Scott Davis to form Team 6th Sense. The following year he brought home a 1st place trophy for Experienced precision individually. Wayne has flown in competition with single line, dual line and quad line kites earning national trophies in fighter, precision, ballet and indoor competitions. Wayne has also been found at an occasional "Kite Making for Kids" as part of the Pierce County Kitefliers Association.
Bob Wendt, of Puyallup, Washington, will be the announcer for the festival. Bob is a member of the Pierce County Kite Flyers Association. A very well respected flier himself, he will give you the scoop on indoor kite flying.
Scott Weider, of Rhode Island is an accomplished flier and American Kitefliers Association indoor champion. He won the honor at the 2005 AKA Convention in October. Scott is also an award winning photojournalist for The Call newspaper in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
Lisa Willoughby, of Medford New Jersey is a master flier who has been flying since 1997. She is experienced in flying individual, pairs and team dual line, quad line individual and team, indoor, fighter and Rakkaku kites. She has won awards in many disciplines including Grand National Experienced Fighter line touch and 2005 Grand Nationals Individual Rokkaku Champion. For the 2007/08 season, Lisa teamed up with Paul de Bakker to form pair Fusion and won the 2008 Grand National for Experienced Pairs. Lisa is a member of the South Jersey Kite Fliers and Wings over Washington kite clubs. She is a speech-language pathologist and enjoys integrating kites into her therapy and education programs. She teaches kite making and flying to people of all ages for schools, libraries and community programs. She lives with her 7 and 10 year old children, who also enjoy flying kites and participating in kite competitions.
Jeff Reed, of Monroe, Washington is a long time supporter of the Lincoln City Indoor Kite Festival. Jeff is an excellent example of an indoor flier and is a lot of fun to watch!
Amy *Mousie* Doran, of Bend, Oregon has been competing for 4 years in both Indoor and Outdoor sport kiting. Sometimes known as "Charlie", Amy holds two consecutive National Championships for the Outdoor Unlimited Individual Ballet. She placed third at the Indoor National Championship in Gettysburg, PA in October 2008. Keep an eye open for "Charlie", as he is sure to make an appearance and have a bit of fun!
Connor Doran, from Bend Oregon, is a Junior at Mountain View High School. In his second year of competition, Connor won the Experienced Indoor Competition at Windless Kite festival in 2009 and a month later received 2nd place in the Experienced Indoor Competition at Lincoln City indoor Kite Festival, thus taking home the NW Sport Kite League 2009 Experienced Indoor Championship. He has been competing with great success outdoors flying his favorite Rev kites as well. He qualified for the 2009 AKA Grand National Championships in Experienced Multi Line Ballet and Precision as well as Novice Duel Line Ballet.
Tristan Underwood, of Vancouver, British Columbia has been flying kites indoors since he was 7 years old. He is now almost 14 years old. Tristan was awarded the Indoor Kite Champion title in the Northwest Sport Kite League (NWSKL) in 2008 & 2009. He placed third at the Indoor National Championship in 2007. Tristan loves to fly and practices in his school gymnasium in the winter and in his front yard in the summer. He choses & edits his own music and choreographs his own routines. Tristan also flies at the Master level outdoors. When Tristan isn't flying kites, he enjoys playing the saxaphone, gaming on the Wii, and honing his skills on the computer.
Ronda Brewer, of Lincoln City, OR owner of Phantom Star Design, she can be entrusted with the safety and kite education of any kid in America. Ronda can show kids and adults alike a simple way to make a kite to fly at virtually no cost for materials. Ronda, a member of the Lincoln City Kite Friendship Association, can be seen flying Rokkaku battles at outdoor festivals. |
