The First Honeymoon in Lincoln City
 On August 14, 1837, the Rev. Jason Lee and his new bride and Cyrus Shepard and his new bride left the Willamette Valley and journeyed by horseback down the Salmon River Trail to the beautiful Oregon Coast. They arrived in the Lincoln City area at about 5 p.m. on August 18th and set up camp which overlooked the Pacific and which was enveloped by a small grove of evergreens. Bathing in the surf and relishing baked clams and fish, the two couples enjoyed their honeymoon stay until August 26th. They were the first known vacationers and honeymooners at the Oregon Coast.
The Lees and the Shepards may have discovered it first, but Lincoln City on the Central Oregon Coast is just as beautiful a site today for creating memories with those you love. |
