February is Black History Month

Throughout the country, Universities, Organizations, Libraries, Museums, Cities, Counties, States and many others focus on the rich diversity of Black History annually during the month of February.

Lincoln City’s Month Long Black History Month Highlights – February 2010

Throughout February

View art exhibits at the Freed Gallery on the south end of Lincoln City or the Motown display at the Little Antique Mall on the north end! Up all month long these two features of Black History month in Lincoln City will be available daily for free!

February 6th

"That's Black Entertainment - Actors". This documentary is dedicated to actors whose talents have transcended the ages and provided the inspiration for many great actors today. Includes Paul Robeson and Spencer Williams Jr.

February 13th

"Daughters of the Dust" (1991) “Daughters of the Dust" is an African American family heirloom, a gorgeously impressionistic history of the Gullah people set on the South Carolina Sea Islands at the turn of the century. The film is part of the National Film Registry.
Bijou Theatre ADMISSION $2 11:00a.m.

Emmett Wheatfall spoken word artist performs live at 7:00p.m. The spoken word artist performs with a modern jazz band. The new age "wordbeat" experience is inspired by the Harlem Renaissance.

February 19th

Daarieyes Baye Fall will feature their dance and music of Senegal and Guinea at the Lincoln City Cultural Center auditorium at 7PM. 541-994-9994

February 20th

"Harlem Renaissance" (2004) Featuring commentary from historians and the performers themselves, this program traces the roots of the music of the Harlem Renaissance, its social impact on society and its eventual acceptance in mainstream culture. Includes classic performance footage and interviews from Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and more!

"Do the Right Thing" (1989) Spike Lee's award winning film about a Bed-Stuy neighborhood and bigotry on hot day in Brooklyn resounds to this day. Nominated for two Academy Awards. With Danny Aiello, Spike Lee, John Tuturro, Ruby Dee, and Ossie Davis . Rated R
