BLACK HISTORY MONTH
On the Central Oregon Coast February is Black History MonthThroughout the country, Universities, Organizations, Libraries, Museums, Cities, Counties, States and many others focus on the rich diversity of Black History annually during the month of February. Throughout FebruaryView art exhibits at the Freed Gallery on the south end of Lincoln City or the Motown display at the Little Antique Mall on the north end! This documentary is dedicated to actors whose talents have transcended the ages and provided the inspiration for many great actors today. Includes Paul Robeson and Spencer Williams Jr.
"Daughters of the Dust" (1991) “Daughters of the Dust" is an African American family heirloom, a gorgeously impressionistic history of the Gullah people set on the South Carolina Sea Islands at the turn of the century. The film is part of the National Film Registry. Emmett Wheatfall spoken word artist performs live at 7:00p.m. The spoken word artist performs with a modern jazz band. The new age "wordbeat" experience is inspired by the Harlem Renaissance.
Daarieyes Baye Fall will feature their dance and music of Senegal and Guinea at the Lincoln City Cultural Center auditorium at 7PM. 541-994-9994
"Harlem Renaissance" (2004) Featuring commentary from historians and the performers themselves, this program traces the roots of the music of the Harlem Renaissance, its social impact on society and its eventual acceptance in mainstream culture. Includes classic performance footage and interviews from Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and more!
